John D. Davis, IV, MD
After rotating on several surgical specialty services, Dr. Davis was drawn to neurosurgery as it combined definitive structural solutions with the complexity of the nervous system. He has over 17 years of experience in neurosurgery after completing his residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Davis specializes in the evaluation, and when called for, surgical management of spinal problems, particularly those involving nerve root compression (pinched nerves) or spinal cord compression. He most enjoys the often immediate and dramatic relief of pain the patients enjoy, as well as restoring normal function to their lives.
Dr. Davis's clinical interests and most of his clinical research from his residency years centered around the management of cervical spine problems. However, almost half of his practice is in the treatment of low back or lumbar spine problems.
Dr. Davis was born in Starkville, Mississippi, and with the exception of two years in early childhood spent in Alabama, grew up in Mississippi. All of his elementary and secondary education occurred in the Jackson, Mississippi area prior to his departure to four years of college at Mississippi State University and then medical school at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Having grown up in Mississippi, Dr. Davis returned home to Mississippi one year after the completion of his residency to join Dr. Lynn Stringer, another founding member of NewSouth NeuroSpine, in private practice.
