TRUE SOUTH CLASSIC ANNOUNCES TOURNAMENT SPONSORS AND MANAGEMENT
MADISON, Miss. (April 3, 2012) – The PGA TOUR’s Mississippi event, the True South Classic, announced today that four of Mississippi’s leading specialty medical practices, NewSouth NeuroSpine, Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, Jackson Heart Clinic and GI Associates and Endoscopy Center, and Trustmark Bank, have signed an agreement with Century Club Charities, Inc., to become consortium sponsors of the True South Classic. These agreements ensure the future of the True South Classic, Mississippi’s largest professional sporting event.
The tournament also announced that the Bruno Event Team (Birmingham, AL) will be managing the event and has named John Marovich its tournament director.
“We are extremely grateful to all of our new consortium sponsors for their willingness to support this tournament,” said Marovich. “The medical community’s participation is truly a first, with four specialty groups uniting for the common cause of supporting this longstanding community event and promoting the great state of Mississippi to the world.”
Trustmark Bank will become the title sponsor of the annual pro-am that is held on the Wednesday prior to the official competition rounds. In addition to the pro-am title sponsorship, Trustmark will be providing volunteers to assist in the operations of the event. More than 1,000 volunteers are needed each year for the tournament.
“We are extremely pleased to sponsor such a first class tournament in our own backyard,” said xxxxxxx. “Trustmark has always been a loyal corporate citizen of Mississippi, and when we looked at the economic impact on the state as well as the charities which benefit from the tournament, we realized what a win-win-win opportunity this was for Mississippi, the charities involved and Trustmark.”
Marovich said the medical groups’ participation will extend well beyond financial support, as they plan to use this event as a platform to educate Mississippians on how leading a healthier lifestyle will enhance their overall quality of life. The four groups will staff a pavilion along the 18th fairway during the week of the tournament, and each day offer health related services and education to visitors. This will range from complimentary blood pressure screenings and body mass index measurements, to flexibility screenings and tips for lowering cholesterol.
“The True South Classic is well known among the PGA TOUR circle for being a strong community event, rich in history and tradition,” said Tico Hoffman, president of Century Club Charities, Inc. “It is our sincere hope through this tournament to continue the amazing charity work that is felt all over the state of Mississippi.”
The 2012 True South Classic will be held July 16-22. One of only 45 PGA TOUR tournaments held each year, the True South Classic has been part of the PGA TOUR schedule since 1968 and is now in its second year as part of the season-long FedEx Cup. Since 1968, this event has raised more than $6.8 million for statewide charities. Past champions of the tournament include defending champion Chris Kirk, reigning FedExCup Champion Bill Haas and the current No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Luke Donald.
